One of the Essendon District league’s most exciting looks set to explode in 2023.
Oak Park’s Anthony De Lorenzi has enjoyed a stunning start to the season which has seen him kick four goals in the first two rounds of the Division 2 season.
The youngster was at his brilliant best in a win over Sunbury Kangaroos on Saturday building off a promising performance in Round 1 against Taylors Lakes.
According to Oak Park coach Todd Clark, De Lorenzi is now part of a “core group” of senior players helping to take the club forward.
“He put in a big pre-season and we’re already seeing the rewards of that,” he said.
“He’s been in and around the senior group for a couple of years now and he’s someone who has taken real leadership of his own game.
“One of the best parts about his game is his ferocity at the contest, he loves the hard stuff but also has the class to finish around goals.
“We love having him as part of our group.”
Scott Gilliland was another Oak Park player to win praise from Clark following Saturday’s contest.
He played an important role in a back six which is arguably the most impressive in the competition.
“It was a really impressive performance, Gilliland played a key role in helping the defence hold up,” Clark said.
“Cam Milich on the last line of defence was super impressive as well. I thought it was a real character win for us. It was an evenly poised game all day.
“If I was a betting man, I’d say Sunbury Kangaroos are going to be right in the mix for the top-four.”
Oak Park will next make the trip to John McMahon Oval to take on East Sunbury while Sunbury Kangaroos will look to bounce back against Coburg Districts.
