WESTERN Bulldogs utility Jackson Trengove has returned to his junior club — as senior women’s coach.
The 28-year-old, who has played 169 games at the top level, has taken on the coaching job at Essendon District Football League outfit Strathmore.

While the club conceded Trengove will miss some matches because of AFL commitments, the knowledge he has garnered over nine years at Port Adelaide and the Dogs will be invaluable.
Strathmore claimed five wins from 12 games in its inaugural season of senior women’s football this year, finishing eighth in the 13-team competition.
“It’s fantastic to have someone like him heading up our women’s football,” Mores president John Elliott said.
“It also gives him the opportunity to see what it’s like at club level and grassroots level.
“He’s a homegrown, he was a junior Strathmore player, so he wants to put something back into his local club, which I think is fantastic.
“He’s got a lot of work to do. They’re a very young group, so it’ll be interesting, but I know he’ll do well.”
The 197cm Trengove was snapped up by Port with pick No. 22 in the 2008 draft.
He crossed to Whitten Oval as a restricted free agent this year and made 16 appearances for his second club.
Elliott said Trengove, who lives close to the club, would have a strong support team as he looks to develop his coaching for a potential career post-playing.
But the possibility of Trengove playing for the Mores’ senior side in coming years has not been discussed.
“That’s a long way down the track. He’s still got two years of his (Western Bulldogs) contract to go,” Elliott said.
“Obviously we’d be very excited if he came back when he finished, but that’s never even been discussed and isn’t on the agenda.
“That’s just something that might happen or might never happen.
“He might get another contract and play until he’s 32, 33. Hopefully after his two years are up, he gets another two years.”
Strathmore’s women’s side kicks off pre-season training tomorrow.
