Vermont must find a new senior coach after Harmit Singh announced last night he was stepping down as coach of the Eastern league Premier powerhouse.
The dual Eagles premiership mentor broke the news on Thursday that he had made the “incredibly difficult” decision to step away from the role.
He’s been appointed coach of Warragul Industrials in the West Gippsland league.
Singh leaves an indelible record at the Eagles after steering the club for 61 matches across 2017-19, with 55 wins and just six losses for an overall winning percentage of 90.1 – the third-best winning record of any Vermont coach in the club’s 100-year history.
He coached the club to three grand finals in each of his seasons at the helm, winning its first senior flag in nine years in 2018 before losing just one match last year to go back-to-back in 2019.
The Eagles were set to chase its first three-peat since 2005-07 this year before the coronavirus-forced season shutdown.
“As we move forward and commence planning for the 2021 season our senior men’s coach Harmit Singh has notified the club that due to an employment opportunity in the country, he will not be continuing on as senior coach at Vermont FC in season 2021,” the club confirmed in an official statement on Friday morning.
The club said Singh had been an “outstanding coach” during his tenure, and that he will be “sorely missed at the club.”
The Eagles will commence their search for their next senior coach immediately and looked forward to seeing Singh and his family around the club in the future.
“We wish Harmit and wife Samantha all the very best with their future endeavours and will still look forward to seeing them around the club especially at future Auskick clinics,” the club said.
