IT MIGHT have scored a healthy win, but Diggers Rest was far from content after its Riddell District Football League clash with Romsey on Saturday night.

The Burras recorded their first win at Romsey Park since 2010, triumphing 13.13 (91) to 6.4 (40) against the side which has beaten them in the past two grand finals.

But while Diggers Rest looked sharp throughout the opening half to set up a 45-point advantage at the main break, coach Shaun Sims was left dismayed with a lacklustre final hour.

While it was never really in the contest, Romsey fought back as both sides put five goals on the board in the second half.

“We just switched off really,” Sims said.

“I was really pleased with the way we started and our ability to keep their score down. We dominated around the contest up until halftime.

“But I was fairly disappointed with the way we performed in the second half. It wasn’t up to the standard we’ve set. But full credit to Romsey, they finished the game really well.

“I think we’re setting the right standards though if we’re disappointed even if we win.”

Midfielder Taylor Hine continued his strong start to the season with his new club, finding plenty of the ball to be named best-on-ground for a second-straight week.

Sean Egan, Michael Evans and Brandon Kilty also played key roles while Luke Smailes was the best of the forwards with three goals.

The win left Diggers Rest unbeaten on top of the ladder after three rounds.
