HAWTHORN great Dermott Brereton was in the Karingal rooms to present Bulls rookie Lachie Hinde with his first senior jumper on Saturday.
Brereton is a family friend of the Hindes and has seen Lachie grow up. He had some sage advice for the young man.
“He spoke really well for three or four minutes,’’ Karingal coach Brett Dunne said.
“He said everyone wishes they were back starting their footy careers at 18 and told Lachie he has all of his footy in front of him, so make the most of it.’’
Karingal turned in a ruthless display to thrash Crib Point 20.13 (133) to 5.5 (35) at Ballam Park.
Matt Stanley, Nathan McDonald, Travis Puntaroni and Andy McInnes all kicked three goals, and Mason Russell and Andy Mathers were outstanding, as the Bulls charged to their ninth win from 11 games.
Red Hill made it four wins in a row with an eye-popping 17.7 (109) to 7.5 (47) win over Hastings at Barclay Reserve.
“It was one of those days when our intensity levels were up and we used the ball really well,’’ Hillmen coach Jamie Mollo said.
The Hillmen had winners everywhere. Chris Irving and Jono Ross booted six goals apiece, while Daniel McNamara, Jonah Siversen and Marcus Dal Lago ran rampant.
Youngster Aidan Marchesani made an impressive senior debut, playing alongside his brother Luke.
Mollo said his side was switched on. “Our ball movement from defence to attack was exceptional. Our work rate all day was huge,’’ he said.
Rye snapped a four-game losing streak with a stirring 14.6 (100) to 7.7 (49) win over Pearcedale. The Demons’ side consisted of five under 19s, while senior men Harry Whitty, Leigh Morse and Ben Trivett ran hot.
“Our second half was really dominant,’’ Rye coach Josh Moore said. “That was really pleasing because we’ve fallen away over the past month so we had a focus going in to play out the game, and we did.’’
Ladder leaders Dromana swept to an 11.11 (77) to 2.11 (23) win over Tyabb, with Terry Wheeler, Shaun Clarke, Sam Geurts and Ethan Johnstone kicking two goals apiece.
Former Shepparton United star Reid Crowe was best afield in Chelsea’s 27-point win over Devon Meadows. Rhys Hensel, Brad Clark and Daniel Aarsman also impressed.
Langwarrin kept its finals hopes alive with a gritty win over Somerville, 9.12 (66) to 7.12 (54). Jett Murphy slotted six goals to continue his splendid season and Gerard Brown was dominant.
