DAREBIN and Diamond Creek set the scene for a blockbuster Round 2 clash in the Women’s VFL, posting resounding victories on Sunday.

The Falcons were far too good for competition newcomers Cranbourne, recording a 31.20 (206) to 1.3 (9) win at AH Capp Reserve, while the Creekers won by 152 points against Knox.

This weekend’s match will be the first time the sides have met since Darebin claimed the 2015 Victorian Women’s Football League premiership with a 63-point grand final triumph.

The competition may have been rebranded since, but Darebin and Diamond Creek look set to be the teams to beat again.

Darcy Vescio and Katie Brennan combined for 14 goals in the Falcons’ comprehensive victory, while Karen Paxman was best afield.

Jess Cameron was outstanding in Diamond Creek’s win, slotting nine goals in a 24.15 (159) to 1.1 (7) victory.

Steph Chiocci and Shae Audley also starred for the Creekers.

In other games, Melbourne Uni skipper Emma Kearney led the way as her side posted a 76-point win against Seaford.

The Mugars prevailed 15.13 (103) to 4.3 (27) at Melbourne University Oval.

Ellie Blackburn, Gabriella Pound and Louise Stephenson finished with three goals apiece for Melbourne Uni.

Eastern Devils and VU Western Spurs were the other successful sides in the inaugural round of the Women’s VFL.

The Devils got home by seven points after trailing at three-quarter-time against St Kilda, while the Spurs won on the road against Geelong.

Ashleigh Guest was a standout for VU Western Spurs, while Tahni Nestor impressed for Eastern Devils.

Darebin and Diamond Creek’s clash headlines the competition’s Round 2 fixtures. The game is scheduled for 11am on Saturday at Coburg’s Piranha Park.

Melbourne Uni is at home against Knox, Eastern Devils tackle VU Western Spurs, St Kilda takes on Geelong and Seaford meets Cranbourne in the other matches
