Which clubs are set to play on one of the most important days of the year

There’s set to be several local footy blockbusters on Anzac Day as the community pays its respects. Here’s every fixture you can watch across Victoria.

Looking for your local footy fix on Anzac Day Day after paying respects at the Dawn Service and the march to those who served?

Well there’s plenty of options right across the state.

Here’s where you’ll be able to catch a game.

METRO FIXTURES

EASTERN

Premier Division

South Croydon v Blackburn, Cheong Park, 2.20pm

The annual Premier Division fixture returns to the Bulldogs‘ home deck with the ’Burners hunting their first win of the season. South Croydon prevailed in all three meetings last year; pulling away in the second-half on Anzac Day to win by 30 points before an 86-point triumph in Round 14 and a 27-point victory in the elimination final. The match will be just the second for Blackburn in almost three weeks, after kicking off the season on Good Friday.

ESSENDON DISTRICT

Premier Division

Aberfeldie v Avondale Heights, Clifton Park, 2.15pm

Aberfeldie will look to get its season on track after a first up loss to Pascoe Vale last week. They’ll be favourites against an Avondale Heights side beaming with young talent.

Division 1

Glenroy v West Coburg, Sewell Reserve, 2.15pm

West Coburg will look to stamp it’s authority on the competition with a big win here. But the Roys will be desperate for a better performance after losing in Round 1.

Westmeadows v Tullamarine, Willowbrook Reserve, 2.15pm

Two of the most talked about clubs in the off-season given the number of departures. This will give us an indication of where they sit.

RIDDELL DISTRICT

Macedon v Diggers Rest at Tony Clark Oval, 2pm

The traditional fixture should draw a big crowd being the only game in the region.

Diggers Rest is coming off an impressive 40-point win over Woodend-Hesket in Round 1, while Macedon is looking for its first win after a 46-point loss to Riddell. Diggers claimed a 23-point win in the game last season on the back of Lachlan Ronaldson‘s eight goals. While Ronaldson won’t be there, Diggers go in warm favourites.

WESTERN REGION

Division 1

Werribee Districts v Hoppers Crossing at Keogh Homes Oval, 2.15pm

In a battle between the traditional rivals, Districts will enter as strong favourites against Hoppers Crossing who improved last time out.

COUNTRY FIXTURES

THE STANDOUTS

Hampden

Portland v Hamilton at Hanlon Park.

In the traditional Anzac Day match-up between the newest clubs in the competition the Tigers and the Kangaroos face each other with plenty to play for. Both sides have started the season with two losses and will be looking to bounce back in this clash. Portland leads the head-to-head 6-3 and have won four of the past five contests on April 25.

Goulburn Valley

Benalla v Seymour at Benalla Showgrounds, 2pm

Shepparton v Shepparton United at Deakin Reserve, 6pm

A standout day to start the 2023 Goulburn Valley season. All four clubs are littered with young stars and are desperate to make rises up the ladder this season.

Ovens and Murray

North Albury v Albury at Bunton Park

Wodonga v Wodonga Raiders at Martin Park.

Wodonga and Albury will be looking to continue their unbeaten starts to the season but face stern tests from their rivals Wodonga Raiders and North Albury respectively. Both the Raiders and Hoppers have yet to win this season and the two teams will be looking to spoil the party.

OTHER GAMES

Bellarine — Drysdale v Portarlington, Drysdale Recreation Reserve, 2.10pm.

Geelong — South Barwon v St Joseph’s, McDonald Reserve, 2.15pm.

Geelong and District – Bannockburn v Inverleigh, Victoria Park, 2pm.
