Paul Chapman to leave Kyneton at the end of season

A three-time AFL premiership star’s country footy coaching journey has come to an early end with several rounds to play. Here’s what we know.

The almost two year coaching tenure of former Geelong premiership star Paul Chapman at Kyneton has ended.

The Bendigo league side announced Chapman is leaving the club immediately with work commitments taking their toll on the former Norm Smith Medallist.

Kyneton is currently seventh with five wins and seven losses for the season.

Overall, Chapman won 15 games out of the 30 he coached, only missing finals by percentage last year in his first year as coach.

“The Kyneton Football Netball (KFNC) (club) and Paul Chapman have made a mutual decision that he will step down as senior coach, effective immediately,” a statement from Kyneton president Hayden Evans said.

“The timing of this decision is because Paul has increased work and family commitments, and KFNC needs to commence planning for the 2024 season.

“This was a difficult decision, handled respectfully and was made amicably.

“The KFNC is extremely thankful to Chappy for his contribution over his three years.

“He refreshed the KFNC with his professionalism and set high standards.”

An announcement on an interim coach will be made by the Tigers later this week.

More to come.
