Fairytale finish to the season for Kangaroos and Cupido

Girgarre coach Damian Cupido celebrated his 100th goal in the season in a unique way as the Kangaroos made the finals for the first time in 21 years. Watch the celebrations here.

Girgarre’s Damian Cupido took celebrating 100 goals in a season to a whole new level on the weekend, smashing a Nippy’s Chocolate Milk as his teammates rushed around him.

Cupido kicked 14 goals for the Kangaroos on Sunday against Longwood in the Kyabram and District Football League to reach the 100 goal milestone.

He started the round on 87 and brought up the milestone in the final quarter as Girgarre won by 98 points.

As he brought up the milestone, fans and teammates rushed to the former AFL player to celebrate, with one person handing Cupido a chocolate milk to celebrate.

Cupido then proceeded to drink the milk before also consuming a beer from another fan.

For the former Essendon and Brisbane player it was the fourth time in his career he kicked 100 goals in a season.

He’s now done it three times in Victorian country leagues and once in the Northern Territory for Southern Districts.

The milestone also helped Girgarre seal the last finals spot with the win.

It is the first time in 21 years the Kangaroos have qualified for the finals in the competition.

The team will now prepare to take on Shepparton East in the elimination final this weekend.

Cupido wasn’t the only player to celebrate 100 goals in a season in the competition over the weekend with Violet Town forward Jack Exell also achieving the feat.

He kicked seven goals against Avenel to end the season on 102 and claim the leading goalkicker in the competition award.
