They’re the hidden country footy gems from the Mildura region in the Sunraysia and Millewa competitions. Here’s 30 of the best.

The Sunraysia region is home to some of the best hidden gems in country footy.

Nestled in the sunshine, in and around Mildura, the football talent continues to grow.

Here’s a look at some of the best players from across the Sunraysia and Millewa competitions.

Bailey Anderson, Irymple (Sunraysia)

One of the rising stars of the competition who has locked away a spot in the senior side in the last two years. A no fuss defender.

Jarrod Brander, Wentworth (Sunraysia)

The former AFL player continues to be a major threat in front of goal in the Sunraysia league. He leads the goalkicking in the competition with 53 goals in 13 games.

Nate Bull, Merbein (Sunraysia)

The emerging defender continues to develop into one of the most promising keys in the competition.

Dion Camera, Robinvale Euston (Sunraysia)

In the absence of other forwards at the club, Camera has shined to be one of the leading goalkickers at the club. He’s kicked 21 goals in 12 games for the Eagles, including two five goal hauls against Red Cliffs and Ouyen United.

Jack Carter, Wentworth (Sunraysia)

Since joining the club back in 2019, Carter has gone onto to become one of the most consistent players for his side.

Gareth Collinson, Gol Gol (Millewa)

Won last year’s goalkicking award in the Millewa and is on track to do it again, despite facing some tough competition. Has kicked 43 goals in 10 games.

Junior Cooper, Bambill (Millewa)

Cooper has had a strong first season in football, kicking 26 goals in 11 games to be the leading goalkicker at the club. Could end the year as a premiership player.

Jayden Forrest, Werrimull (Millewa)

Been a handy recruit this season. Been in the best players in nine out of 10 games in his first year back since playing for Red Cliffs in the Sunraysia league.

Jayden Fox, Imperials (Sunraysia)

On track for his highest goals haul of his career at Imperials in what has been the best year of his career. He’s the ladder leaders highest goalkicker with 33 goals from 13 games.

Kurt Freer, Nangiloc (Millewa)

Is having his best season at Nangiloc and is on track to win the goalkicking this season in the competition. Has kicked 54 goals in 12 games.

Josh Gregg, Ouyen United (Sunraysia)

Returned to the club at the start of the year after a stint in South Australia and has gone onto be one of his side’s best in a difficult season.

Archer Hammond, Irymple (Sunraysia)
Part of a talented midfield group pushing their side towards premiership success. Hammond is one of the competition’s biggest rising stars.

Tom Hedley, Ouyen United (Sunraysia)

In his second season with the last placed etam after returning following a one-year stint in 2017.

Tyriece Hudson, Meringur (Millewa)

Been one of the best in his first year of seniors. Has kicked eight goals in 12 games and been in the best players in nine of them. Last year, he kicked 60 goals in under-18 for Mildura.

Sam Kalbfell, South Mildura (Sunraysia)

Been one of the best players for South Mildura in what has been a tough season for the Bulldogs. The inside midfielder has been in the best players in 10 of 11 games.

Sam Kerridge, Mildura (Sunraysia)

In his second season with the club and enjoying another fine year. Represented the competition in interleague.

Aaron Laskey, Imperials (Sunraysia)

The midfielder has impressed since coming from Queensland to play in Mildura. Has been in the best in nine of 11 games.

Jonah Licht, South Mildura (Sunraysia)

The key forward joined from Mt Gravatt in Queensland where he was the captain last season. Has been the leading goalkicker for his side in a tough season.

Luke McConnell, Red Cliffs (Sunraysia)

Has made a strong impression in his first season with the club after consistently appearing among the better players.

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, Imperials (Sunraysia)

The former Essendon livewire has settled in nicely into the Sunraysia league, helping the team to go from bottom to top. He’s kicked 27 goals in 12 games.

Blake McDonnell, Wentworth (Sunraysia)

Returned to his junior club at the start of the season after a stint in South Australia’s Adelaide Footy League. Has added outstanding depth to his side’s midfield.

Logan McKinnon, Gol Gol (Millewa)

Won last year’s best and fairest and the Gol Gol midfielder could be in contention again. The midfielder has been among the best players in nine of 12 games this season.

Francesco Miceli, Cardross (Millewa)

Been impressive again for Cardross this season, helping the team to be a premiership contender. Has kicked 35 goals in 11 games.

Benji Neal, Robinvale-Euston (Sunraysia)

Won the McLead Medal last year during his first season with the club and has been impressive once again.

Mitch Rogerson, Mildura (Sunraysia)

The star midfielder has been one of the best for the Demons in a tough season. Has been in the best players in 11 of 12 games and has impressed after suffering a nasty injury late last season.

Domenic Scullino, South Mildura (Sunraysia)

A consistent player in a difficult season for his club. One of his side’s leaders.

Jake Thrum, Irymple (Sunraysia)

The player/coach has found form in the Sunraysia league immediately after helping Golden Square to win last year’s Bendigo league title. He’s kicked 29 goals in 12 games playing in the midfield and the forward line.

Peter Tuifao, Red Cliffs (Sunraysia)

Regarded as one of the Tigers’ most consistent players. The defender is hard at the footy and makes it a difficult day for opposition forwards.

Daniel Tung, Merbein (Sunraysia)

Has developed a name for being able to to play multiple positions making him a key player for the Magpies.

James Zappia, Robinvale-Euston

Enjoying another strong season after stepping up from the under-18 competition after Covid. Moved back into the middle this season and it’s made a serious impact.
