The Goulburn Murray region is home to some of the state’s best country footballers. Here’s 30 elite talents in northern Victoria outside of the GVL.

The Goulburn Murray region is home to some of the best hidden gems in country footy.

Outside of the Goulburn Valley League, the region’s premier competition, the football talent continues to grow.

Here’s a look at 30 of the top players from across the Murray, Kyabram District and Picola and District competitions.

Harry Beasley, Cobram (Murray)

The former Murray Bushranger has thrived for the Tigers this year in different positions. Has been named in the best in 11 games.

Danny Brewster, Undera (Kyabram)

Has continued his goalkicking form for Undera after kicking 100 goals last year for Natte Bealiba. He’s kicked 54 goals this season.

Charlie Burrows, Waaia (Picola)

The forward has kicked 78 goals this season at more than five goals a game. A former league leading goalkicker, Burrows has had another great year.

Ryan Butler, Girgarre (Kyabram)

Been a standout for the Kangaroos in a tough season. He’s been in the best in 12 of 13 games and has almost kicked almost a goal a game.

Tom Buzza, Numurkah (Murray)

Returned to the club at the start of the year and has played a key role with the Blues in the premiership hunt.

Angus Cameron, Barooga (Murray)

A new recruit out of the VAFA, Cameron has made an immediate impact for the Hawks. Has been named in the best 13 times.

Daniel Campbell, Katunga (Picola)

Has averaged almost five goals a season, helping the team to finals. Campbell has kicked 71 goals this season.

Elliott Cavallaro, Congupna (Murray)

Arrived at the start of the year after winning a premiership with Altona in the WRFL. Has booted 76 goals from 18 games and is one of the smartest forwards in the league.

Zac Cerrone, Lancaster (Kyabram)

The midfielder has been great in the middle and up forward. He’s kicked 36 goals in 15 games to be one of the best for the defending premiers. Last year, he was best on ground in the grand final.

Clancy Congues, Nathalia (Murray)

As consistent as they come for the Purps this season in a year where he celebrated his 200th club game. Has kicked 12 goals and been in the best 11 times.

Owen Conway, Mulwala (Murray)

After premiership success last year, Conway is enjoying another fine season for the Lions with 12 mentions in the best so far.

William Dalton, Nagambie (Kyabram)

In his first full season of senior footy, Dalton has been a revelation. He’s kicked 45 goals in 15 games to be one of the best for Nagambie, who finished the regular season on top.

Liam Evans, Nathalia (Murray)

One of the competition’s leading goalkicker with 94 majors for the season.

Jye Formosa, Longwood (Kyabram)

Been instrumental in helping Longwood bounce back and be in contention to make finals for the first time in the Kyabram District league. The midfielder has been in the best players in all 14 games he’s played. He joined from Strathfieldsaye.

Dion Gleeson, Congupna (Murray)

After returning to the club at the start of the season, Gleeson has slotted in seamlessly and played a key role for The Road.

Ash Holland, Waaia (Picola)

Last year’s league best and fairest has been great again for the reigning premiers. The ruckman has helped Waaia be one of the best teams in the competition again.

Mitch Lake, Moama (Murray)

Enjoying a fine season with 30 goals and 10 mentions in the best so far.

Tom Lang, Finley (Murray)

In his first season with the NSW club, Lang has established himself as one of the best forwards in the league with 92 goals. He’s a premiership player with St Mary’s in Geelong.

Timothy Looby, Strathmerton (Picola)

The forward has kicked 92 goals to help Strathmerton become a premiership threat this year.

Archibald Mason, Finley (Murray)

One of the competition’s rising stars. Mason is able to consistently get on the scoreboard for the Cats with 22 majors for the season.

Tom McCluskey, Shepparton East (Kyabram)

The talented ruckman has been one of the best for Shepparton East this season as the team has risen to the top. McCluskey has been in the best players in 10 of 15 games.

Dougal McKindlay, Moama (Murray)

A consistent presence in the Magpies’ line-up and a player you can rely on everything week.

Dylan McNamara, Mulwala (Murray)

A premiership hero who continues to play a key role as one of the more consistent players in the competition.

James Milne, Murchison-Toolamba (Kyabram)

The club stalwart and premiership player is still going strong in the midfield. Has been one of the best players for the club this season as the team chases another premiership.

Kade O’Dwyer, Numurkah (Murray)

In just his second season of full-time senior footy, O’Dwyer has gone to another level to be one of the better players in the competition.

Tomas Rennie, Stanhope (Kyabram)

One of the leading goalkicker in the Kyabram District league. Rennie has kicked 62 goals in 16 matches, his best haul since 2016.

Dylan Robinson, Tungamah (Picola)

Been a brick wall in defence for the Bears, being in the best players most weeks for the club. He joined from Mulwala in the Murray league.

Ashley Saunders, Tungamah (Picola)

Despite missing games, Saunders has been one of the best for the Bears this season. He’s kicked 45 goals in 12 games.

Chase Strawhorn, Rennie (Picola)

This year Strawhorn kicked his 1000th senior goal as he provided a valuable role for Rennie in attack. The forward has kicked 51 goals for the struggling club and has almost scored a fair chunk of the teams score this season.

Desmond Tipuamantumirri, Rumbalara (Murray)

A young gun with plenty of potential. He has been a real shining light for Rumba in an otherwise difficult season. He has been named in the best 13 times.
