Cohuna will play in the Central Murray league next year but have not ruled out trying to force another move away from the competition.
The Kangaroos earlier this year announced they were looking to move to the Heathcote District league after playing in the Central Murray league for the past 26 years.
The move came after members of the club voted on the change but it was rejected by the Heathcote District league.
The club has played in the Central Murray league since it started, in 1997, after a merger between Cohuna and United.
Now, according to Cohuna president Rick Easton, the club’s future is in one league for next year.
“There’s no recourse for appeal or anything from where we sit,” Easton said.
“We will be playing in the Central Murray football league (next year) and we are focusing on that.”
But Easton did not rule out making a decision next year to try to move again.
“That will be some discussion to be had further down the track,” he said.
“Our members voted for the move this year and it will be remiss of us not to keep it in mind for 2025 unless some other options present themselves in the meantime.”
Cohuna’s focus now is on bouncing back in the seniors after missing finals on percentage.
Easton said the focus was on retaining most of the list, adding some recruits and improving depth.
The club is holding a meeting on Tuesday night to further discuss the 2024 season.
