After breaking the club’s 21-year premiership drought last week, Cresswell’s departure, driven by commitments in Albury, marks the end of his one-year tenure in Cairns.

His meticulous preparation and unique insights into the game have set a new benchmark for the club and he leaves behind a legacy following his minor and major premierships this season.

As the club embraces change, it welcomes former Gold Coast Sun Andrew Boston as the new senior coach for the next two seasons.

A born-and-bred Queenslander, Boston was selected by the Suns at pick 55 in the 2013 AFL Rookie Draft.

He played 16 matches, kicking an AFL career-best four goals against Greater Western Sydney in Round 23, 2013, before stepping away at just 21.

Gold Coast’s loss was Southport Sharks’ gain, as he put together an impressive 79-match career across five seasons.

His accolades include being a two-time Doc Mackenzie Medallist (edging out Cutters star midfielder Tyler Roos by a single vote in 2019) and co-captain of the 2018 premiership team. He will reunite with former Sharks Roos, Tom Fields, and Lee Dale if they re-sign for the 2025 season.

Boston has always been around footy, with his dad, Neil, having been at Southport before crossing to Broadbeach as an assistant coach.

With a fierce passion for footy, Boston is primed to lead the Cutters into a promising new chapter.
