NEW Vermont coach Harmit Singh says he is unsure if he will pull on the boots next year after his 2016 season was derailed by a serious ankle injury.

The Eagles have confirmed the Collingwood women’s assistant coach as their leader for the next two seasons after Steve Cochrane announced Saturday’s grand final loss would be his last in charge of the club.

However, the half-back flanker is no certainty to pull on the Eagles jumper.

The 29-year-old didn’t play after Round 4 when he suffered a grade 3 tear of his ankle ligaments while playing for Northcote Park in the Northern Football League.

Singh, who is due to have a clean out operation on the ankle next week, said he hadn’t made a decision on his playing future.

“It has only just got right now, which is good, and obviously I’m keen to get back into it,” Singh said.

“For now, I am there to coach and try and do that to the best of my ability.”

Singh arrives at Vermont with a wealth of success, steering mid-table side Morwell to consecutive Gippsland Football League premierships in 2013 and 2014.

For the past two seasons he has coached the Cougars to back-to-back finals series.

He also coaches Collingwood’s academy team and is due to complete his level 3 AFL high performance coaching course early next month.

Singh, who is looking at moving to the eastern suburbs with his wife Samantha, said a flag would be his aim at Vermont.

“That’s core business to try win premierships,” he said.

“That, along with all the other clubs, is what we will be aspiring to do.”

Singh said he aspired to take his coaching career as far as potentially the AFL.

“Coaching is something where you should never be happy with where you are at and I am definitely not comfortable with where I am at,” he said.

“I’ve got a lot to work on and a lot to get better at and always striving to become better.”
