POTENTIAL number one draft pick Chloe Molloy has been cleared of a broken collarbone after being injured in Sunday’s VFL Women’s grand final.

The Diamond Creek forward, who has been touted as a certain first-round pick in this year’s AFL Women’s draft, was collected by Darebin Falcons’ Karen Paxman in the third quarter of the decider.

She battled through pain to take the resultant free-kick, but was forced from the field and taken for scans after the match.

Despite initial fears she had broken her left collarbone, Molloy is expected to be told today she dislocated her shoulder or suffered ligament damage.

“They think it is more likely to be either a slight dislocation or ligament damage but there’s definitely no break,” Creekers coach Scott Gowans said.

“It is a good result. Probably best-case scenario because it will only be a few weeks and she will be right to go.”

Molloy is unlikely to test at next week’s AFL Women’s draft combine, but Gowans said that was unlikely to harm her draft chances after she was crowned the VFL rising star and leading goalkicker in her debut season.

“Definitely not,” Gowans said.

“I reckon just the goal she kicked after being injured, it just showed another trait.”

Molloy bravely took the field in the last quarter of the grand final, which Darebin Falcons won 5.5 (35) to 4.4 (28), despite being in obvious distress.

Three of her Diamond Creek teammates have also been invited to the combine — midfielder Ash Riddell, defender Reni Hicks and forward Sophie Abbatangelo.

The Western Bulldogs could pair Molloy and Katie Brennan up forward if they pounce with the first selection in the draft.

The star pair shared the VFL goalkicking award this year, finishing the home-and-away season with 32 majors.

Molloy could join the club she supports, Collingwood, if she slides to selection three, the second Victorian pick in the draft.
