CHELSEA’S new coach for 2018 has already been decided, with Brett Dunne handing over the reins to assistant coach James Brain.
Brain will be a playing-coach, with David Willett his assistant.
Dunne said the handover was part of a succession plan and he’s happy to step aside.
“It’s something we set out to do at the start of the year,’’ Dunne said.
“A few people made a big deal out of it but it was a plan we had in place. I think it’s right for the club. He (Brain) can progress it in a different area as far as recruiting.
“I think it’s good for the club.’’
Dunne had two seasons at the helm at Chelsea, and was credited for stabilising the club and moving it in the right direction.
He believed Chelsea took steps forward this year.
“We’ve won five and lost three or four by less than a couple of goals so we probably aren’t that far away from the final five,’’ he said.
As for his own future in footy, Dunne was unsure.
“For me, I rely a bit on fate. What will be, will be,’’ he said.
“If somebody was to say, ‘are you interested in coaching?’ I’d talk to them. If nobody says anything then I’ll go surfing.’’
