Not one but three players got to the 100 goals in a season milestone on Saturday as there were upsets galore in local footy. And for one country footy team it had a field day in scoring. Here is the latest footy wrap.

It was another big weekend of local footy.

Three players kicked the magic milestone of 100 goals in a season while one club in country footy had a field day in front of goal.

Teams were also upset while others claimed minor premierships with impressive results.

MILESTONE MEN SALUTE

It was a special day for three footballers in country football as all kicked their 100th goal for the season.

Brandyn Grenfell (Marong), Dominic Dare (Alvie) and Ethan Redcliffe (Mitta United) all achieved the target in different ways on a great day for each of their clubs.

Grenfell was first to the milestone, kicking his 100th goal in the middle of the first quarter, as Marong smashed Bridgewater by 146 points.

He kicked four on the day to move to 103 goals for the season but could have kicked plenty more.

Nine behinds to the gun forward meant there were a few goals left on the footy field for the milestone man.

Dare was second to 100 goals, kicking the one goal he needed in the second quarter, against the Colac Imperials in the Colac District league, to get the achievement.

He is now the new outright leader after kicking five on the day and sits on 104 goals for the season.

The team recorded a 39-point win to move to the top of the competition on percentage with the Colac Imperials.

Finally, Redcliffe achieved the milestone later in the day after kicking seven against Mitta United in their 84-point win over Rutherglen.

He is now on 103 goals for the season, tied with Grenfell.

Cora Lynn’s Nathan Gardiner, who kicked seven goals, is the next on the leading goalkickers list with 92 goals for the season.

FINALS PUSH FOR REDBACKS

A six-goal haul to Nathan Rayment has helped Romsey in the Riddell District league to move into the top five, and finals, with an important 28-point win over Macedon.

In an eight-point contest, with both sides fifth and sixth, Romsey moved past Macedon in the race for the last finals spot with an impressive first three quarters.

The team kicked 10 goals to three, including a four goals to none third term, to be up by 42 points at the final break.

Macedon fought back in the final term but it was too late as the Redbacks charged to fifth spot.

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW?

Donvale has held off a second-half surge from Ferntree Gully to win by 12 points in a battle of the top-two in the Eastern league’s Division 3.

Ladder-leader Donvale raced to a 53-point halftime lead before the Gully piled on seven majors in the third term to march back into the contest, after registering just one goal to the main break.

But the visitors weren‘t to be overrun, holding strong to run out 14.8 (92) to 11.14 (80) winners.

TIGERS TAME LIONS 

Balwyn has claimed the scalp of a finals-bound Doncaster East in the Eastern league’s Premier Division, 12.9 (81) to 9.8 (62).

The third-placed Tigers piled on six goals to one in the opening term to set up the 19-point victory. Former AFL and VFL forward Jordan Lisle led Balwyn‘s charge with three first-half goals.

WERRIBEE’S RUN OVER

In the biggest upset of the Western Region league this season Point Cook Centrals beat the previously unbeaten Werribee Districts by nine points to for their second win of the season.

In a close contest all day, a six-goal burst in the second quarter gave the Sharks a four-point lead at half, which was extend to eight at the final break.

The Sharks held on despite conceding two goals to one in the final term to prevail and become the first team to beat the ladder leaders.

The day wasn’t entirely bad for Werribee Districts with the team securing the minor premiership after second-placed Altona lost to Point Cook, who are third, by 36 points.

ROOS CLAIM MIGHTY MPFNL SCALP

Langwarrin has done what no Division One side before it could by defeating the seemingly impenetrable Dromana.

The Roos had just two wins and one draw leading into the Round 16 clash while Dromana had a 15-0 record.

Trailing by five points at the final change, Langy pushed hard to pinch a 7.11 (53) to 7.7 (49) win.

The win now surges Langwarrin six points clear of Bonbeach, which is fighting to stay in Division One.

EAGLES FLY HIGH

Airport West has ended Pascoe Vale’s chances of the minor premiership with an upset 15-point win in the Essendon District league.

The Eagles led all day and held off a late challenge from the Panthers to win their 5th game of the year.

Pascoe Vale would rue their missed chances for the day.

The team kicked nine behinds in the first half, with no goals, and kicked 4. 15. (39) for the day.

The loss handed Keilor the minor premiership with the Blues beating East Keilor by seven points.

A final term comeback, after being down by two points at three quarter time, handed the team the win.

BEAR GRIP ON SURVIVAL

Lower Plenty is likely to play Division 2 football again in the Northern league after their most important win of the season against Epping.

In a battle between the two bottom teams, with both on one win each, the Bears beat Epping away from home by 33 points to move to second-last.

The win was set up in the second half with Lower Plenty kicking 10 goals to three to turn a six-point deficit into the five goal win.

The third term saw the Bears kick five goals to none.

Liam Riley kicked three goals for the Bears with Archer Bugden doing the same for Epping.

THIRD ONLY JUST

VAFA Premier B side Beaumaris might still be third but it is now only percentage from sixth after losing to De La Salle.

The team entered the round one game clear of fourth to six but with De La Salle beating them by 10 points, the gap is closed.

De La Salle, who were fourth at the start of the round, led from start to finish and were able to hold on despite a late comeback from Beaumaris.

Both sides will fell they had opportunities to do better with both inaccurate in the contest.

De La Salle won 9. 13. (67) to 7. 15 (57).

THE JETS’ WHEELS ARE IN THE AIR

Black Rock has shattered its 15-game losing streak with a phenomenal win over East Malvern.

The Jets – reigning premiers of Southern league’s Division 3 – are all but certain to be relegated back down from Division 2 but escaping a winless season is sure to put a smile on departing coach Ryan Handley’s face.

The home side kicked away late to record the 14.13 (97) to 8.19 (67) win.

ROSELLA’S FLY AWAY

In Division 1, premiership favourites Cheltenham rattled home 12 unanswered goals after a fast start from Springvale Districts to triumph 16.8 (104) to 7.5 (47).

The win makes it nearly impossible for the Rosellas to finish anywhere but first as they sit three wins in advance of any other side with three rounds left.

DOGS FINALS CHANCES ALMOST OVER

Gisborne’s chances of defending their title in the Bendigo league hang by a thread after losing to Golden Square on Saturday by 40 points.

The reigning premiers are now two games behind the top five, in seventh, with three games to go and face ladder leaders Sandhurst next.

The Bulldogs, against their fellow Bulldogs outfit, were competitive for three quarters but were not able to complete the game.

Golden Square kicked four goals to one in the final term to remain second and be a major premiership threat this season.

Bulldogs vice-captain Liam Barrett kicked four goals.

MINOR PREMIERSHIPS SEALED

This weekend saw plenty of minor premierships being wrapped up in country footy.

Marong not only won their 29th match in a row against Bridgewater but won their second straight minor premiership with one game to play in the Loddon Valley league.

Inverloch-Kongwak bounced back from their first loss two weeks ago to beat Tooradin-Dalmore by 28 points to claim the West Gippsland minor premiership.

Ultima beat Moulamein in a top of the table clash by 13 points to seal the minor premiership in the Golden Rivers league.

A seven-goal haul to former Adelaide and Geelong player Josh Jenkins helped Sea Lake Nandaly to beat Wycheproof-Narraport by 152 points to seal the North Central league minor premiership with their 14th straight win.

Wy Yung won back-to-back minor premierships in East Gippsland with one round to play with a 19-point win over Orbost Snowy Rovers.

Newborough defeated Boolarra by 147 points to wrap up the Mid Gippsland minor premiership.

Traralgon Tyers United won the minor premiership in North Gippsland after beating Glengarry by 156 points.

Merrivale won their 17th match in a row to seal the Warrnambool District minor premiership.

Buln Buln Lyrebirds claimed the minor premiership in the Ellinbank competition with a 195-point win over Nilma Darnum.

Robinvale Euston won their 14th game of the season to seal the minor premiership in the Sunraysia league.

Harrow Balmoral won by 99 points to claim the Horsham league minor premiership with a round to spare.

Ararat Rats won the minor premiership in the Wimmera league with their 14th straight win of the year.

HIGHEST SCORE OF YEAR

You have to feel sorry for the club who had Kane Cornes play earlier this year for them in the Carlton Draft, Moyston Willaura.

The Mininera league club conceded the highest score this season, as Wickliffe/Lake Bolac scored 390 points against the Panthers.

The Magpies kicked 60 goals to one to win by 384 points.

It is the highest score in country football this season, beating the previous mark of 319.

Liam Zavaglia kicked 11 goals for Wickliffe/Lake Bolac and was one of 11 who kicked two goals.

All but one player for the Magpies got a goal.
