BALWYN’S marquee signings Daniel Gorringe and Henry Schade have found new football homes without playing a game for the Eastern Football League club.
The former Gold Coast teammates were cleared from Balwyn late last week, lining up for their new clubs on Saturday.
Gorringe was cleared to EFL club Park Orchards, booting two goals in a 23-point win over Wantirna South in Division 2, while Schade lined up for VAFA Premier B club Old Carey.
It was revealed in February both players had walked out on the club after it was announced Rodney Eade had taken over as Balwyn coach from Marty Pask.
The pair was delisted by the Suns while Eade was coach of the expansion club.
Balwyn president Richard Wilson denied it was going to be too hard for the duo to play under Eade.
“I think the circumstances changed, originally there was a little bit of that around it but that wasn’t the case in the end,” Wilson said.
“The other factors came in with family, friends — (Schade’s) family at Old Carey and a couple of guys he knew over (at Park Orchards) for about 25 years for Gorringe.
“We had some long conversations and that’s where we got to. It’s all OK, we all move on.”
Balwyn had previously stated Gorringe and Schade were “required players” but Wilson said on Monday afternoon “common sense prevailed” in helping the two move on.
“It’s obviously not ideal but we played Round 1, we’ve got other opportunities and other players get opportunities and I think we have done pretty well to cover them,” he said.
“We hoped they would stay because they signed contracts and we wanted them to stay.
“At the end of the day we had a chat to the clubs and the boys with ‘Rocket’ (Eade) and we moved on.”
Gorringe played 26 AFL games for Gold Coast and Carlton, while Schade played 28 games at the top level for the Suns and Collingwood.
