Greater Western Victoria Rebels forward Strahan Robinson made a statement in response to being left out of the Coates Talent League team last weekend.

Robinson kicked eight goals for East Point in their 174-point win over Melton South in the Ballarat league.

East Point kept Melton South goalless for three quarters, while kicking 22 goals themselves, including 11 in the third term.

It was the second largest win of the season in the competition with the win moving East Point into the top-five and keeping Melton South winless in 25 games.

But Robinson stole the show, kicking the most goals in a game this year in the competition.

“He’s got a lot of upside to him,” East Point coach Joe Carmody said.

“He’s a really strong key position forward, and got really strong hands.

“His hands are as strong as anyone going around.

“He really reads the play well and finds space on the lead.”

Originally from Koroit, Robinson has been boarding at St Patrick’s College for the past couple of years and played for East Point’s juniors before getting his senior opportunity for the Kangaroos last year.

He won the under-17 Ballarat league goalkicking title in 2022.

Robinson got his shot at playing for the Rebels this season and kicked five goals in his first three matches before GWV coach David Loader made some switches to the team last week, which saw the teenager miss.

Loader said Robinson had every chance of being looked at by AFL teams, but there were also a few areas of his game he needed to work on.

“He’s clearly a very good player,” he said.

“There’s 200 or 300 (players) that are possibilities (to be drafted) and Strahan is one of those.

“He’s great at standing and delivering (on the mark) and competing against players who aren’t as quick.

“But it’s the ability to do more if he doesn’t mark the ball where he needs to be better.

“If the ball is not marked in a contest (against speedy defenders) they tend to bounce off him.

“If his form continues who knows where he can go with his footy.”
