IT was a first-versus-second match, but Murrumbeena’s brilliant women’s team was untroubled in recording another thumping win in the Southern Football League and staying unbeaten this season.
The Lions defeated Oakleigh District 15.23 (113) to 1.1 (7) at the Beena Arena to go 11-0.
Remarkably, they have scored 1511 points this season and conceded only 55; their percentage stands at 2747.27.

Ace goalkicker Danielle Wearne added another nine goals to her tally, giving her 61 from 11 matches, and midfielder Shanae Carter was judged best-afield.
Lauren Luff, Ella Maitland, Kathrine Rosendorff and Lauren Wolf were also notable contributors.
But the victory did come at a cost, with Brianna Hayes seriously injuring her knee. She’s unlikely to play again this season.
Murrumbeena has taken Olympian strides since it put out a call for players early last year.
At that stage the Lions had only a dozen players but they ended up with more than enough for a team. And they ended up with a premiership under the coaching of club stalwart Emrys Lloyd-Griffiths, sailing through undefeated.
This year the Lions are operating two sides.
“The girls played very well yesterday,’’ Lloyd-Griffiths said.
“Their foot skills and their leg speed really showed out. With the running comes open spaces and once they get that space they just take off. They’re like cats with wings.’’
He said Wearne was capable of playing in the VFL Women’s competition.
“She’s got a great spring on her, a good sets of hands and she kicks the ball very well,’’ he said.
“She’s really improved. Last year she thought she had to kick all the goals herself. Now she’s happy to get other players involved.’’
