It was an Eagles onslaught in AFL Outer East as they fired off 26 goals, led by a star recruit and a batch of exciting teenagers.

The goals came fast and often for Beaconsfield on Saturday.

A five-goal burst in the opening quarter was the forerunner to a tidal wave of scoring forays as the Eagles trounced Doveton 26.27 (183) to 2.5 (17).

They fired off 10 goals in the second quarter as Nick Battle, against his former side, combined beautifully with Matt Johnson and Jafar Ocaa.

This wasn’t just a drubbing, it was a statement.

Beaconsfield has assembled a talented and well balanced side, featuring star players and quality youngsters.

Decorated coach Mick Fogarty, in his first season in the AFL Outer East competition, looks to be in charge of yet another power side.

But he played down talk that Beaconsfield was the benchmark of the Premier division.

“We can’t control that,” Fogarty said.

“All we can do is control what we do on a Saturday and right now after round three if that indicates that we’re the benchmark, well, we’re the benchmark.

“It could change in six weeks time.”

Johnson (six goals), Ocaa (five) and Battle (four) kicked 15 goals between them, while Lachlan Modica and James Munro chipped in with two apiece.

Fogarty was especially pleased with Battle, who joined the Eagles after stints with Doveton and Doveton Eagles.

“The form of Nick Battle since coming across has been really good,” he said.

“We knew he was a really good player but he’s just been really consistent for us in the three games.”

Fogarty also praised young Josh Mounter, who was cut late from the Stingrays but is proving himself a fine prospect.

“He has settled into senior football really well,” Fogarty said.

“He’s getting better each week as he adjusts to the tempo and the pace of the game and he’s finding his feet at senior level. So we’re really happy with him.”

Young ruckman Patrick Gerdan, who is on the Stingrays list, was named Beacy’s best player.

“We’re just rapt with our kids, they’re getting opportunities and finding their way in senior footy,” Fogarty said.

Former St Kilda player Brandon White also impressed for the Eagles and Jamie Plumridge was good across half back.

Doveton’s only two goals came after half-time and were kicked by Dylan Bowman.

Fogarty said Doveton didn’t give up.

“I know the scoreboard indicates a really one-sided game but to Doveton’s credit they cracked in all day,’’ he said.

“They’re probably just down on a bit of personnel.

“But it was good to have a good day out and hit the scoreboard.’’
