Adam Treloar to coach Noble Park Under 12s

HE MIGHT be an AFL star but Adam Treloar is willing to earn his stripes all over again in modest surroundings – he has committed to a coaching gig next season at a Melbourne club that is very close to his heart.

AND the new coach of the Noble Park Junior Football Club Under 12 team is … Collingwood star Adam Treloar.

The Magpie midfielder played under-age football at Noble and has maintained ties with the Bulls and his former teammates and coaches.

A while ago he expressed interest in a coaching role with the juniors and next year he will guide the Under 12s, with his assistants covering for him when he has Sunday AFL games.

Vice-president Trish Marson said Treloar was proud of his association with Noble Park.

“Adam was an outstanding junior player and he’s been an outstanding role model for the club,’’ she said.

“He always comes down when he can, he’s always in contact to find out how the club is going, he has a real passion for it. He wants to see the club succeed. He knows that football in the City of Greater Dandenong is probably not growing as well as it should and he wants to help.

“Obviously we’ve made arrangements to fit in with his schedule at Collingwood, and he’s going to have a lot of support staff around him. The objective for Adam is to not only coach the Under 12s but also offer assistance to the coaches and players in other age groups. It will be a combined effort.’’

Marson said the Under 12 players were excited at the prospect of being coached by the top Magpie.

In 2005 Treloar won the Under 12 best and fairest, defeating two players who also went on to the AFL lists, Piva Wright and Alex Woodward (the trophy winners that season included two other future AFL players, Shane Savage and Kyle Martin).

In the following two years he won league medals in the Dandenong District competition.

When he was captain of the Noble Park Under 16 team Treloar was chosen in the 13th intake of the AIS AFL Academy.

He also made his debut for Dandenong in the TAC Cup, but told the Stingrays not to select him late in the season so he could play his final two games of junior football with Noble.

Marson said St Kilda onballer Savage was also keen to kick in for the Bulls and would be dropping in for some training sessions.

“We’re blessed that the boys who have gone on to play AFL don’t forget where they’ve come from,’’ she said.

“They’re great young men and we hope they can inspire other boys and girls to believe they can achieve things.’’
