TRANSPORT has been identified by constituents and candidates in the Mordialloc and Carrum seats as the biggest issue ahead of the state election.

In Mordialloc, which will include Aspendale, Aspendale Gardens, Edithvale, Chelsea and Chelsea Heights, Liberal MP Lorraine Wreford has two confirmed contenders so far — Labor’s Tim Richardson and the Greens’ Alex Breskin

In Carrum, which includes Carrum Downs, Skye, Sandhurst, Lyndhurst, Dandenong South and Bangholme, the Liberal incumbent Donna Bauer is so far up against Labor’s Sonya Kilkenny.

More candidates will be announced by the November 14 deadline.

The Frankston train line was the battle that won the war for the Liberals in both seats in 2010 and transport is central to the November 29 vote.

“That’s why the Napthine Government is building the Dingley Bypass, planning the Mordialloc Bypass, fixing Labor’s Frankston (train) line mess, and reducing fares,” Ms Wreford said.

Mr Richardson said Labor’s Melbourne Metro Rail project would be a boost for commuters.

“Labor will also remove 50 of the worst railway level crossings, including at Edithvale, Cheltenham and Bonbeach,” he said.

Mrs Bauer said she was focused on “improving local services, cutting red tape for small business and easing cost of living pressures for families”.

Ms Kilkenny said she had spent “about 141 hours making calls, knocking on doors and engaging with people on street stalls and at train stations”.

Greens upper house candidate for the South Eastern Metro region Nina Springle said she and her team had knocked at 5265 homes.

“About 2500 of those have been in Aspendale, Parkdale and Edithvale alone,” Ms Springle said.

“Public transport gets raised as a big issue all the time. Only one new morning train has been added to the Frankston line in the last four years.”
