Tobruk House in Albert Park hit with graffiti for fourth time in three months
DISRESPECTFUL vandals have defaced the Albert Park home of a veterans’ association for the fourth time in three months, devastating the members aged in their 90s. Now extra security measures are being considered to stop it happening again.

A VETERANS’ association in Albert Park has been hit with graffiti for the fourth time in three months.
Rats of Tobruk Association committee member Glenda Garde told the Leader that veterans, aged in their 90s, were devastated their “sacred place”, Tobruk House, had been targeted on Friday night.

“This is the fourth time it has happened in about three months,” she said.
“The veterans get really upset because to them, this is a sacred place and to see it disrespected like that is horrible.
“Either these vandals don’t know who we are and what we do here, or they don’t care.”
Ms Garde said the hall on Victoria Ave, which was repainted just two years ago “at great cost”, was being used as a blank canvas for taggers.
“It’s just a rotten act, especially since we’d only just removed some graffiti before Christmas,” she said.
Ms Garde said Port Phillip Council had been contacted to remove the graffiti.
She said the committee would consider installing CCTV cameras at the hall.
Port Phillip Mayor Bernadene Voss said council had twice removed graffiti from Tobruk House last year and would send crews out again.
“It is appalling that Tobruk House has been repeatedly vandalised,” she said.
“These shameful acts upset me and will no doubt upset many others who hold the ‘Rats’ and other brave servicemen and servicewomen who give or risk their lives – both past and present — in such high esteem.”
Cr Voss said graffiti less than 3m above ground level would be removed free of charge.
