THE contest for Caulfield is now a five-horse race, after two independent and fringe party latecomers announced their state election candidacy.

Rise Up Australia’s Teresa Horvath and independent John Myers nominated on Friday, and join Greens candidate Tim Baxter and Labor’s Josh Burns in taking on incumbent Liberal MP David Southwick on November 29.

Ms Horvath may have trouble wooing Caulfield’s multicultural voters with her platform of “keeping Australia for Australians”.

She floundered at the Leader’s challenge to list the electorate’s suburbs, saying: “we’ve got a nice big area ... you’ve got the whole of north, south, east and west.”

Ms Horvath eventually identified four of the electorate’s 12 suburbs.

Deregistered physician John Myers aimed to make Caulfield a global “epicentre of change and justice”, starting with the body that took away his right to practice medicine: “VCAT is...biased when it comes to medical board issues,” he claimed.

Mr Burns said Labor would give residents a greater say in local planning and improve public education and transport. Mr Southwick said he would “fight hard for more public open space within the racecourse.”

Mr Baxter said the Greens would “fix our broken public transport system.”
