Suburban Rail Loop: Travel time savings from Box Hill to Cheltenham revealed

Commuters across Melbourne’s southeast are set to save up to an hours’ travel time on public transport on board the Suburban Rail Loop service.
Residents from Box Hill to Cheltenham will be the first to benefit from stage one of the project, saving up to an hour on one way trips during the AM peak.
Trips from Cheltenham to Monash, Glen Waverley or Burwood are set to be slashed by 40 minutes to an hour, with 20 to 40 minutes shaved off journeys between Clayton and Box Hill.
More quick trips will include Monash to Clayton and Glen Waverley, with up to 20 minutes saved.
An end to end trip from Cheltenham to Box Hill will take 22 minutes, with trains taking between three and four minutes between each stop.
Stage one will create interchanges to the Frankston, Cranbourne, Pakenham, Gippsland, Glen Waverley, Belgrave and Lilydale lines with project to expose the southeast to regional areas with a transport super hub in Clayton.
The Suburban Rail Loop Authority anticipates more than five minutes will be cut from a drive from Box Hill to the CBD as the loop is connected further north and west, improving traffic flow on major roads.
Stage one construction will start in 2022 with the initial and early works to create up to 800 direct early jobs.
