When it wasn’t hosting big bands for sweaty gigs, St Kilda’s old Palace nightclub was a one-stop party destination for a generation of clubbers.
The Twister club night started in 1993 and became a staple on Saturday nights for 14 years.
Along with the usual drink specials and DJ’s, there were often themed party nights for various musicians or events, and celebrities would make guest appearances for competitions, photo opportunities and other antics.
Among the guests over the years were former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins, game show hosts Larry Emdur and Mike Goldman, and Shannon Noll off the back of his success on Australian Idol.
Even the late, great Bert Newton, wife Patti and music industry legend Molly Meldrum popped by for some fun.
The party stopped at Twister when The Palace’s operators announced the venue was closing down in mid-2017, with its farewell party held in June.
The venue was then damaged in a fire less than a month later and demolished.
But thanks to nightclub website Max Moose, memories of Twister’s glory days and other long gone nightclubs throughout Victoria live on.
