“Police still have a significant amount of work to do on this investigation, however Victoria Police is committed to bringing (it) to a successful conclusion,” he said.

They would not release any new details about the case.

On July 21, 2013, Ms Connelly’s badly beaten body was found by her long-term partner Tony Melissovas inside the white Ford Econovan in which they lived in Greeves St.

The street is well known as a location for sex workers, and police have carried out numerous underccover stings of kerb crawlers there in the past.

Police believe Ms Connelly had entered her van at 2am and was killed before 2.30am, about 12 hours before Mr Melissovas found her body.

Her handbag and mobile phone were stolen, and police at the time investigated whether it was a burglary gone wrong.

Detectives have a DNA sample from the crime scene, but have been unable to find a match.

In 2014 the sample was tested against samples from 192 countries, via Interpol, but without a breakthrough.

In a public appeal in the weeks after Ms Connelly’s death, Mr Melissovas fought back tears as he begged for anyone with information over her death to come forward, describing his girlfriend of 19 years as a “beautiful angel”.

“First and foremost, Tracy was a human being and regardless of what she had done for a job, she deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, just like anyone else,” he said.

“Tracy is a beautiful and kind, caring, loving person who deserves justice and not to be forgotten or disrespected by anybody.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online.
