As one former St Kilda fast bowler departs Caulfield, another arrives — as senior coach.

The Fielders have locked in former Saints great Adrian Jones, who is coming off a three-year stint at Mordialloc that produced two premierships in the strong Dandenong association.

Jones is also a past coach of St Kilda and former Subbies club Kingston Saints.

SUBBIES EXPANSION PLANS ON HOLD

OUR SUBBIES TEAM OF THE YEAR

The manager of Cricket Victoria’s Southern Pioneers region will renew cricketing contact with former St Kilda pair Graeme Rummans and Lachie Graf, but not his former bowling partner Adam Warren, who has retired.

He replaces Ryan Webster, who stood down after steering Caulfield to two First XI flags in his four seasons in charge.

Jones said the Fielders were keen to promote young players after the departures of Warren, Peter Cross and Englishman Sam Anthony.

“They want to develop from within rather than get from outside,’’ he said.

“They feel they have a group who have been exposed to the firsts and seconds … that’s the way I wanted to go if I was going to coach.

“So they’ll be doing it slightly differently next season, blooding from within and pushing up their own and having aspirations of some moving up to Premier Cricket, which is something I like the sound of.’’

He said Caulfield was a historic and successful club, and he was pleased to be appointed coach.

As for Rummans and Graf, Jones said: “I obviously played with and coached Graeme, and coached Lachie for six years. Hopefully they’ll be happy to see me again!’’

Fielders director of cricket Shaun Richardson said this morning: “Once Ryan stepped down we needed to move quickly to secure a new coach. Adrian has the perfect skill-set and coaching experience we were looking for, and his record at St Kilda and Mordialloc speaks for itself.

“His bowling expertise will really help the development of our emerging bowling group, and his focus on discipline and hard work on the track is exactly what we need right now, so we are rapt he is coming to Caulfield.’’

After featuring in four premierships for St Kilda, Jones coached the club for six years.

He made his debut for the Saints in 1993-94 and played 226 First XI matches, collecting 425 wickets at 22.72, including 10 five-wicket hauls and best figures of 7-81.
