Cricket Southern Bayside 2018-19: Dylan Blignaut hits century as Brighton District amasses big total

With a hoik over midwicket, Dylan Blignaut brought up his seventh century for Brighton District on Saturday.

Blignaut crunched 10 boundaries and 4 sixes on his way to 105 (run out), helping the Dragons to a hefty 9-286 against ladder leaders Mentone in the Cricket Southern Bayside Division 1 clash.

Brighton District’s innings was given boost by a 116-run fourth wicket stand between Blignaut and Andrew Lasky (57), the pair taking the score from 4-75 to 4-191. For Mentone,

Matthew Walker toiled away for 4-82 off 20 overs and Matthew Williams grabbed 3-52.

Callum Dodson collected 5-24 off 14.3 overs as Aspendale routed Bayside for 116.

Looking to consolidate fourth spot, the Dales were 1-19 in reply, with Adam Hume on 10.

Harley Dale (1-16), Ethan Wright (1-16) and Steven Kat (2-23) also struck as Aspendale had Bayside reeling at 4-16. Dodson’s wicket haul included Rajeev Pawar, caught and bowled for 46.

Old Mentonians face a testing run chase after Middle Park put up 7-231. Tom Homes was the pick of the Panther bowlers, sending down 24 overs for a tidy return of 3-53. John Seeary continued his consistent form with 2-38 off 15.

Chelsea No 9 Dishan Sandaruwan made 52 not out to lift the Seagulls out of trouble and to 164 against Murrumbeena. Chelsea crashed from 1-46 to 7-59, losing 6-13, before Sandaruwan led a fightback. Ben Marsh (31) and Lachlan De Zilwa (36) chipped in. Sandaruwan grabbed a wicket late in the day as the Beena went to stumps at 3-74.

In Championship Division, Carnegie is eyeing its second win over Hampton in a matter of weeks after a strong effort with bat and ball on day one.

Bimal Shah was again a key figure for Carnegie, taking 3-15 off 11, as Hampton was shot out for 118 in 58 overs. Tatsat Brahmbhatt (2-16), Rahul Chauhan (2-16), Luke Meyer (1-15) and Vinay Tripathi (1-12) also struck. In reply, Carnegie was 2-69 at stumps, with Tej Gandhi on 36.

A 119-run fifth wicket partnership between Chris Hall (68) and Lachlan Fryer (61) helped Beaumaris to 6-244 against Bentleigh.

After opener James Lynch made 39, the Sharks were wobbling at 4-71 before Hall and Fryer led a rebuild, taking to score to 4-190 on the back of determined, solid batting.

Neil Minto smacked 33 not out off 20 balls at the end of the innings. Jarrad Dowling (2-43) and Sam Mouzakis (2-31) did best with the ball for Bentleigh.

Kanishka Alvitigala and Jye Sampson bowled South Caulfield to a position of strength against McKinnon.

Alvitigala took 4-27 and Sampson 3-7 as McKinnon crashed from 4-109 to 127 all out. Wade King was the stand out for the Heat with 60 (with 8 fours). In reply, South Caulfield lost a couple of early wickets before steadying to be 3-55 at stumps, with Sampson on 18 off 80 balls.

Bonbeach fast bowler Daniel Mueller went past 30 wickets for the season when he captured 5-30 to rout Parkdale for 120. Parkdale started disastrously, slumping to 2-4, before Will Shuttleworth (32) and David Nankervis (43) dug in for a 59-run stand.

But Mueller, with support from Will Collard (2-19) and Andrew MacKessack (1-3 off 6), made light work of the Parkdale tail.

In reply, Bonbeach recovered from 3-35 to be 3-102 at stumps, with Shanuka Dulaj on 55.

In Division 2, Port Melbourne No. 3 John Bowers blazed 62 off 77 balls to steer the Borough to 196 against South Caulfield (2-28). Lachlan Mahon (4-30) bowled well for Souths.

A timely half ton by No. 10 Trent Thompson (57) helped ladder leaders Clayton District go from 8-144 to 235 against Bentleigh (2-12). Openers Brendan Lazarus (43) and Stewart Levy (31) did well.

Cheltenham new ball bowlers Stacy Brown (5-66) and Scott Neeson (4-34) tore through Parkdale United as the visitors crashed to be all out for 103 in the 34th over. In reply, Cheltenham cruised to 2-126, with Brown (56no) capping a superb day and Daniel Griffin making 51.
