Brighton batsman Ricky Damiano hits his 15th century in Subbies cricket

Only Val Holten (19) and Anthony Gale (16) have more VSDCA tons than the Tonners captain.

The wind never stopped howling but it was a bright day for Brighton.

Ricky Damiano reached his 15th century in Sub-District cricket.

Marcus Glenister made a ton too.

And the Tonners completed victory over Coburg to continue their bubbly start to the season.

Damiano took a further step towards the top of the VSDCA list of centurymakers with his innings of 144.

Only competition legends Val Holten (19) and Anthony Gale (16) have more tons than the stylish right-hander, who resumed on 91 not out.

Two breaks in play for rain made him wait but he ticked into three figures with a pull shot, taking two on a misfield.

His 144 came off 145 deliveries and had the sparkle of 13 fours and 4 sixes.

“I was nervous, to be honest,’’ Damiano said of his approach to the century. “I don’t get nervous too often these days but I was really nervous for some reason. Having to go on and off twice was frustrating, quite challenging.’’

Damiano said he would like to take the record for the most VSDCA centuries but his priority was to play in another premiership.

He shared a 213-run partnership for the third wicket with Glenister, who picked up his innings on 58.

His even 100 was made off 149 deliveries and included 7 fours and 3 sixes.

“He’s a quality cricketer,’’ Damiano said of Glenister.

“Probably with Jack Rutter in our side, they’re two of the cleanest strikes of the ball I’ve played with. He times the ball really well. He got a couple of 80s last year but he didn’t get a ton so it was nice to see him get one this time. Smart innings.’’

The Tonners declared at 6-300 off 66 overs and bowled out the Burgers for 162 in 53.3.

Opening pair Cal Rayner (4-34 off 17 overs) and James Harrod (4-49 off 15.3) took seven wickets between them, and Luke Shimmin (1-22), Darcy Kennelly (1-19) and Jack Rutter (1-21) shared the crumbs.

Star Brighton recruit Justin Butterfield missed the match to attend a wedding.

Coburg captain Aaron Shellie was a threat with his 49 off 41 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes).

Damiano said Shellie was a class player and was capable of making a lot of runs this season.
