Bonbeach has recruited Robbie Ferraro, a former Victorian under-age player, to help fill the void left by star midfielder Ricky Ferraro, who has moved on.

Robbie played with Sandringham in the VFL and then Noble Park, and in recent seasons has had stops at Corowa-Rutherglen in the Ovens and Murray league and amateur side Old Scotch.

Bonbeach coach Steve Hughes said Robbie Ferraro would benefit the Sharks.

“He knows his footy really well. He has some leadership qualities and he suits what we want to be because he’s tough, he’s smart and pretty clean at the ball as well,’’ Hughes said.

“He’s going to add good depth to us.’’

Bonbeach has also signed ex-Essendon footy league forward Luke Walter (195cm) and Matty Douglas, a key defender from Clayton.

The Sharks have lost some top-shelf players, but Hughes is unperturbed, saying new opportunities have arisen and young players are thrusting their cases forward.

He said one such player was Sean Campitelli.

“The fact that we’ve got a fitness adviser which the club has never had before, young fellas like Sean have really embraced him and I reckon they’ve found an extra layer of fitness and it’s showing out,’’ he said.

Bonbeach face Oakleigh Amateurs in a praccy game on March 15, and another against Frankston Bombers on March 22.
