Southeast sporting megastore gears up for grand opening weekend
From martial arts to camping, badminton, scuba diving, snowboarding or yoga, Decathlon Moorabbin has it covered when it comes to restocking the kitbag, and it’s the perfect destination for the sporting nut this Christmas. Here’s a sneak peek.

Christmas has come early for southeast sporting nuts, with sports galore megastore Decathlon opening its doors at Moorabbin.
From archery to cricket, yoga, scuba diving, mountaineering, skiing and jiu jitsu – the one stop French sports gear and equipment shop has all bases covered- with 7000 products covering 70 multi-terrain sports and leisure activities.
It is the fifth sporting haven to set up in the country, and one of the evergrowing company’s 1600 locations across the world.
CEO Olivier Robinet said the 4000sq m Boundary Rd warehouse employed 100 people and provided an “endless array” of premium, innovative and affordable items including activewear, equipment and shoes.
“Australians are some of the most active people in the world … the whole country is like a playground,” Mr Robinet said.
“Prior to Decathlon’s arrival, many Australians had to spend hundreds of dollars to get a quality product … (we) have changed this.
“We offer high quality products at affordable prices with great service and interactive experiences in store.”
Customers can put new gear to the test in the shop’s active zones, and tuck into Bunnings-styled sausage sizzle ‘Decagrill’, with proceeds donated to local sporting clubs.

Nearby sporting communities can also set up at the store’s community zone, where they are welcomed to showcase their sport and host sign-up days.
Decathlon is a member-only warehouse and membership comes free, with shoppers invited to sign up in-store.
“We have fallen in love with Australia (and) are all about contributing to the local community and assisting Australians to participate in sport,” Mr Robinet said.
“Sport is a key ingredient for good health, good relationships and community engagement and we are excited to be part of the Victorian community.
“Victorians are passionate about sport and so are we.”
