NEW Seaford coach Ben Crowe says his side’s frustrating run of narrow losses is “character building’’ and will only make the Tigers stronger.

Seaford remained winless in Peninsula league after Mornington kicked two goals in the last three minutes to snatch an eight-point win at Miles Reserve.

Anthony Franchina snapped a spectacular goal and then Dale Nolen kicked truly after a contested mark to get Mornington over the line, 13.17 (95) to 12.15 (87).

Seaford’s last three losses have been by five, 10 and eight points.

“This kind of stuff is character building,’’ Crowe said.

“The wins will come. We’re not far off.’’

Crowe said Seaford was a young side that was always learning.

“We keep switching off for those couple of seconds and it’s costing us,’’ he said.

“(On Saturday) we could have really made it difficult for them but just couldn’t convert.’’

Seaford kicked the first two goals of the last quarter to surge 16 points ahead.

“We switched off a bit and dropped away,’’ Crowe said.

“We’re playing a lot of young kids and it’s just the inexperience side of things; when it’s time to slow the game, we’re in a bit of a rush.’’

At Shark Park, Bonbeach halted Frankston YCW’s winning streak with a rousing 19-point win.

Boosted by the return of several key players, including skipper Shane McDonald, Bonbeach finished full of run, kicking four unanswered goals in the last quarter, to win 9.12 (66) to 6.11 (47).

Nick Waterstone, Paul Rebeschini, Mark Tyrell and Jackson Casey were outstanding for Bonny, while Ash Eames and Anthony Totaro tried hard for the Stonecats.

Karingal’s struggles continued when it was thrashed by Edi-Asp, 23.20 (158) to 1.4 (10), at Ballam Park.

In front of a past players function, Karingal coach Steve Coats demanded effort from his players and they gave it in the first quarter. But Edi-Asp, with recruit Jarrod Garth using his booming left foot to slot six goals, bolted clear.

Alarmingly, Karingal’s reserves side was kept scoreless.

Langwarrin won again, beating Chelsea by 76 points, with Ash Collins, Rikki Johnston and Steve O’Brien in cracking form. Aaron Shaw and Jimi Johnson both kicked four goals, and Beau Muston three.

At Madsen Reserve, Jordan Moncrieff slotted seven goals to help Mt Eliza to a resounding 76-point win over Pines.

Rohan Heasley and Darren Booth also starred in the 20.13 (133) to 9.12 (66) win that improved the Redlegs’ record to 2-2.
