Scammer Christopher Collins jailed again after admitting harassing women

A suburban footballer and cricketer recently out of jail after fleecing six women out of more than $80,000 to feed his gambling addiction has again faced court, this time for sending hundreds of nasty text messages to women he was two-timing.

A love-rat Lothario who bombarded two women he had cheated on with hundreds of harassing texts has been jailed again.

Christopher Alan Collins, 30, pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to harass and persistent breaches of court orders at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

The court heard the Point Cook man — a journeyman footballer and cricketer who was jailed last year for fleecing six victims out of $80,000 to feed his gambling addiction — continued his double-dealing ways upon release.

In April this year two women discovered Collins had been seeing them both at the same time and called an end to their relationships, demanding he did not contact them.

The court heard Collins instead sent hundreds of harassing mobile phone and Facebook messages to the pair.

Collins sent around 150 texts to one of the women and went to her address and took a photo of her doorstep, which she found distressing.

He sent the second woman 80 messages, and she also demanded he desist.

The court heard the woman agreed to meet Collins in a public place — Hungry Jacks — because she wanted him to return some money she had lent him.

He asked her for more cash but she refused and left.

The woman told police she was upset by the barrage of messages and couldn’t sleep at night due to the stress.

Officers arrested Collins at his Port Melbourne workplace on April 12 and he was remanded.

In April last year, Collins pleaded guilty to dozens of deception, theft and bail breach offences.

In that case Magistrate Anne Goldsbrough slammed Collins as “probably narcissistic”, with a “sense of self-entitlement” and someone with an “appalling attitude to women”.

Collins’ defence lawyer said Collins had “abandonment issues” and took full responsibility for his actions.

She said her client was “on the right path” regarding treating his gambling addiction and was doing well on his corrections order, which he would complete in the next few months.

Magistrate Doug Bolster said Collins’ actions were “very serious offending” but he had already spent a significant number of days in custody.

Mr Bolster sentenced Collins to 77 days in jail — the exact time he had already served — and warned him to not contact either of the women or face a long period of imprisonment.
