A SANDRINGHAM gymnast is leaps and bounds ahead of her peers, winning a swag of gold medals at the recent national titles.

Romi Brown came home with a series of top titles from the Australian Gymnastics Championships, held in Melbourne in late May and early June.

The 14-year-old won floor, bar, vault and beam competitions as a solo star, and was also part of the first-placed state team.

The Firbank Grammar Year 9 student has already represented her country at events in France and the Czech Republic.

“My first club was Cheltenham Youth Club, I started when I was eight years old,” she said.

“I now train 30 hours a week at the Waverley Gymnastics Club.

“My major goal is the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.”

Next month she will be part of the Women’s Senior and Junior Gymnastics National Camp held at the AIS.

Leader Local Sports Stars medallists will be named in seven categories including juniors, teams, individuals, and encouragement.

The program is now a national celebration, and junior category winners will be judged for national awards.

Cash prizes as well as vouchers from our sponsor Sportsmart are up for grabs.
