FURIOUS locals want action on two boarding houses in a residential street.
A petition signed by more than 30 residents urges Frankston City Council to urgently review the facilities in Daly St, Frankston.
“Both houses have caused a large increase of criminal activity ... and have constant police and ambulance attendances,” the petition stated. “The residents of Daly St constantly live in fear of further criminal activity, safety and loss of property.”
Emma, who did not want her surname printed, said locals had had enough.
“It’s probably been the last three to four years it’s been really bad. Everyone is sick of it,” she said.
Council chief executive Dennis Hovenden said the council had instructed the owners of the boarding houses to “seek an improvement in the way the properties and their tenants are managed ... The council also has liaised with Frankston Police and has a follow up meeting this week”.
Mr Hovenden said councillors, police and Daly St residents would meet to discuss the matter.
“Following this meeting the operators will be directed to take appropriate action to respond and minimise the impact of tenants on neighbours.”
Richard Casley and Nathan Cross — listed as separate business owners, respectively of the two facilities — issued a joint statement.
“We accommodate people in crisis who would otherwise be homeless and this is an important community service,” they said.
They would act when provided with detailed and reliable information.
“Everyone needs shelter and the underprivileged residents of Frankston deserve better than to be bullied out of their home.”
