AN inspired refurbishment has seen the South Oakleigh Club transform from a dull, tired venue into a “hidden gem” of Glen Eira.

The club, in Victor Rd East Bentleigh had struggled in recent years but is hoping to change its fortune and embrace the community following a significant renovation and rebranding.

The SOCial now includes an eye catching front bar, quality dining area, state-of-the-art sports bar, function room and pizza station where guests can watch their food being cooked.

General manager Peter Frost came on board at the club in September last year, with the same team that saw the Caulfield RSL evolve and successfully move with the times.

He said the club had been transformed into a destination that would be active within the community.

“Our vision was to reinvent and rebrand a tired venue that ensured we had a genuine relevance to the community,” Mr Frost said.

“Our venue was tired and fell short of being a destination of choice.

“We now have a state of the art facility where we can accommodate the broader community and are confident the community will embrace our club.”

Mr Frost said feedback from the club’s relaunch on April 1 was overwhelmingly positive and his team was now set on ensuring the SOCial became a premier venue for the Bentleigh East community.

Glen Eira mayor Mary Delahunty said it was “incredibly encouraging” to see the management and board had decided to focus their attention on the local community.

“They’ve done a fantastic job, I can’t believe it only took them four weeks,” Cr Delahunty said.

“It is tucked away (on Victor Rd) so I think you can say it’s a hidden gem.”
