A SYMBOLIC fundraising run that epitomises the endeavour, fun and enthusiasm of teenager Connor Dawes will be held next month.

Connor died in April of a brain tumour after a 16-month battle.

His Sandringham family, friends and Brighton Grammar mates have set up a foundation to help pay for research into brain tumours.

Their first big event is a combined 18.8km and 9.6km Shore to Sheds run on September 15, now open for registrations.

The 18.8km distance refers to Connor's age 18 years, eight months when he died, while the 9.6km is a reference to his June 9 birthday.

In September 2011 Connor ran that exact distance in training for rowing, despite him not being known as a runner.

Mum Liz Dawes said her son had always been positive.

"When Connor was not doing so well I said to him that he and I should start a foundation," Ms Dawes said.

"It was something we talked about, and then when he passed away, his brother Nick said we should do something big.

"It was out of character for Connor to do that run. It was quite amazing, so it was perfect we should set this event up as a gesture to his enthusiasm."

All proceeds go to the RCD (Robert Connor Dawes) Fund to help understand and treat brain tumours, including earlier detection, surgery and post-surgery treatments.
