Baristas at a bayside cafe have added peanut butter lattes to their repertoire, and the brew is bringing in hordes of curious customers.
Kenny Tang created the new drink out of sandwich spread for popular seaside Aspendale cafe Two Farm Girls.
Initially launched as a trial, the coffee alternative has proven so popular it is now a permanent fixture on the menu, said cafe owner Katie Chan.
“It sounds a bit unusual but if you like peanuts then you’ll love this drink,” Ms Chan said.
Tang’s secret mix includes natural peanut butter with no added sugar or salt, maple syrup and plant-based protein powder.
The concoction is added to any hot steamed milk, with cow’s and coconut milks proving to be the top picks.
It’s not as striking as some of the brightly hued lattes currently trending on but what it lacks in colour it more than makes up for in taste and texture.
Velvety, creamy and rich, it’s like a big hug from a peanut.

“It’s really popular with our regular customers and we have loads of people coming in to try it after hearing about it on social media,” Ms Chan said.
“Once they get here they try other dishes and tend to come back for more than just the peanut butter latte.”
And if you love peanut butter but don’t fancy drinking it the cafe has you covered with peanut butter cookies, peanut butter bliss balls and raw, vegan peanut butter tarts by Conscious Cravings.
“We are a bit peanut obsessed,” Ms Chan said.
Two Farm Girls Cafe is at 133 Nepean Highway, Aspendale.
