Online shopping thief chased down by Dingley Village resident as southeast doorstep strikes skyrocket

A brazen online shopping thief thought he made a clean getaway as he made a dash from the doorstep of a Dingley Village home with pockets full of stolen goods. But the shocked victim wasn’t willing to part with their purchase so easily.

Dingley Village parcel theft

Another online shopping order has been stolen in Melbourne’s southeast, with a sly soccer supporter striking at Dingley Village.

But the bright shoe bandit failed to make a clean strike after the shocked Chaldron Pl victim managed to chase him down.

It came after the thief ripped open a parcel left on the doorstep and snatched a Huddersfield soccer jersey from inside about 2.45pm on August 7.

CCTV footage shows the man casually walking onto the front yard with hands in pocket before leaping onto the deck and sizing up the box.

And with the jersey stuffed in his pocket, he attempted to make his run for goal, but not before the victim caught up with him.

The resident managed to get his shopping back and called police but the man took off before officers arrived.

The brazen strike followed dozens of complaints made by residents from Richmond to Cranbourne who also had parcels pinched from their doorsteps.

Opportunistic thieves took anything from Hello Fresh and You Foodz meal plans to envelopes and groceries.

“The (Dingley Village incident) man is described as caucasian in appearance, in his late 40s with brown hair,” A Victoria Police spokesman said.

“He was wearing a black face mask, a grey sleeveless puffer jacket, green shorts and bright green runners.

“Police have released CCTV and photographs of a man they believe can assist with their inquiries.”
