An abandoned car in Dalgety St, St Kilda, has finally been moved on after taking up valuable parking space for six months.

IT’S a win that will be savoured by anyone who’s ever penned a passive aggressive letter.

Angry notes plastered on an abandoned car in Melbourne’s inner south have been part of a campaign to remove the parking hog, which was finally moved on this month.

According to terse notes taped to the car’s windscreen, it had been parked in the St Kilda street for “over six months”, frustrating its reluctant neighbours on Dalgety St.

“It is pretty obvious that (the car) has been dumped and the owner does not give a rat’s a--e,” one read. “Let’s use community power to get it moved.”

The note called on people to “make a complaint” to the council about it.

But Port Phillip Council said they were powerless to do anything about the pesky parker, who was parked in a permit zone with a council-issued permit.

“Council cannot take any action as this vehicle is registered, has a valid permit to park in this location, and two months have not passed since the (first complaint was made),” Mayor Bernadene Voss said.

Cr Voss said three complaints were lodged with the council between November 24 and December 6.

When council parking officers again investigated on January 3, they found the car gone.

Cr Voss said for a registered vehicle to be deemed abandoned, it must have been parked in the same location for at least two months with no contact from the owner.

She said abandoned vehicles would be towed and impounded at a storage facility for 60 days before being sold at public auction.
