Melburnians are facing fluctuating fuel prices again with drivers forced to fork out up to $1.75 litre in some suburbs.
The average cost for fuel is $1.47 today — 9 cents up from same time last week and higher than Christmas Eve.
And while motorists may have been told conflict in the Middle East is to blame, RACV spokesman Brodie Bott said the events have had “no impact”, with the wholesale price of fuel remaining “relatively unchanged” this week.
“So far, events in Iran have had no impact on petrol prices in Melbourne … any price hikes at the pumps are more likely to be part of the normal petrol price cycle,” he told the Leader.
“More than a quarter of service stations are selling above $1.75.”

Mr Bott said Melburnians should only “top up” when prices are high and fill up when cheaper fuel becomes available.
“The good news is, unleaded fuel is still available at a number of outlets at or around $1.36,” he said.
“RACV advises motorists to use a petrol price comparison website or app to find the best deals.”
