A lifesaver says it’s been a “hard summer” on St Kilda beach after a man was found dead in water near a popular pier.
Emergency services were called to the scene following the tragedy on Sunday.
It’s believed the deceased man was sighted in water offshore near Pier Rd about 7.25am.
Lifesaver Simon Lewis said there have been two deaths and more than 30 first aid responses on St Kilda beach this summer.
“It’s been a hard summer on the beach,” said.
“It really hits home when we try so hard and give so much to everyone in need.”
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
It’s unclear how the man died but it’s not believed to be suspicious.
