A man who attacked and threatened to sexually assault a woman in her bed after she declined his demands for sex has been jailed.
Corey White, 32, was sentenced in the County Court on Tuesday to a minimum nine months’ jail after pleading guilty to threat to commit a sexual offence and recklessly cause injury.
White met his victim at Chapel St bar The Wolf Windsor just hours before the early morning October 2019 attack.
The court heard the woman approached White after she notice the fiend staring at her.
White — who told the victim his name was ‘Paella’ — approached the woman several times throughout the evening.
The woman was ordering an Uber home when White suggested he go back to hers, to which she told him “nothing would happen”.
They shared a taxi to her St Kilda Rd apartment, arriving about 3.30am, and he chatted to her two housemates.
The court heard the woman privately told her housemate White would be disappointed “if he thinks he’s getting some”.
When the woman decided to go to bed White got into bed with her and they kissed.
The court heard while they were kissing he pulled down her pants and she pulled his hand away, but he kept trying to put his hand in her groin area.
She then told him she wanted to sleep and turned away, before he pulled her back towards him and she turned back.
White got on top of her back as the victim lay face down, and she panicked and struggled to get away from him and managed to get her legs off the bed.
White then stood behind her and forcefully pinned her neck down against the bed and pulled her hair, saying, “play the game”.
The frightened victim told White that she would do whatever he wanted.
White put at least two fingers in her mouth, cutting the inside of her mouth, and she pulled his fingers out.
The woman then screamed as loud as she could while White repeatedly hit the back of her head, causing the victim to “see stars”.
The victim’s housemates ran into the room and found their friend in “hysterics” and her face looking it had been “roughed up”.
A male housemate, who tussled with White, managed to pin the brute down.
White bit the housemate on the chest and bicep, which the victim said was “excruciatingly painful”.
Neighbours called police after hearing the screams and White fled but was arrested on October 28.
White told police he “didn’t intend to rape her”.
The court heard both of his victims were left with bruises and abrasions.
Victim impact statements revealed the woman was left embarrassed, confused, lonely and isolated and the man was nervous he could have caught hepatitis B.
“I felt ashamed and embarrassed,” the woman said.
“I no longer enjoy speaking to people I don't know … I feel unsafe walking alone in the dark … I feel I must keep my guard up.”
The woman also said she felt “tremendous guilt” towards her roommates.
The court heard White has a criminal record in Victoria, NSW, WA, Queensland, SA.
The fiend’s scaffolding boss provided the court with a reference.
The court heard White had issues dealing with women.
“When I go home with women I go all the all the way,” White told a psychologist.
White, from New Zealand, who’d lived in Australia for 13 years, faces deportation.
Judge Trevor Wraight jailed White for a maximum 15 months.
