Kate Langbroek attacked, bruised in St Kilda home

ST Kilda resident Kate Langbroek — injured in a violent attack at her home — says a nearby boarding house has become a haven for “every hideous, vile manifestation of humanity that’s abandoned itself” since the Gatwick closed.

RADIO star and high-profile St Kilda resident Kate Langbroek says a notorious boarding house has become a haven for “every hideous, vile manifestation of humanity that’s abandoned itself” since the Gatwick closed.

Langbroek has hit out over growing violence near The Regal boarding house after she was injured in a “crazed, violent, terrifying attack” at her house.

IS THIS ‘THE NEW GATWICK’?

She told the violence had to stop and “they’ve got to start sending these people to jail”.

“Ever since the Gatwick closed they’ve been doing that in our area. It’s become a repository for every hideous, vile manifestation of humanity that’s abandoned itself,” Langbroek told the Herald Sun.

“People have to rise up and say what you are doing is not working. It’s an election year and the people we’ve elected have to sort this out.”

Asked whether she would consider moving from the area, Langbroek was defiant.

“We love it there and we’ve put our roots down there. I don’t have it in me just to hand it over to every freak.”

Langbroek earlier called on Housing Minister and Albert Park state Labor MP Martin Foley to “stop the degradation of St Kilda hill” following the incident on Friday night, which left her bruised.

She told listeners of the Hughsey and Kate show her babysitter, Annabelle, was walking to her car — parked 8m from the front door — about 10pm when a man tried to get into the passenger seat.

Annabelle ran back to Langbroek’s home and the man followed her and tried to kick the door down. Langbroek’s young children were inside at the time.

Langbroek said about 12 police arrived at her home and carted the man away.

A St Kilda man, 38, has been charged and remanded in custody in connection with the attack.

Langbroek later tweeted a picture to Housing Minister and Albert Park State Labor MP Martin Foley that showed a large bruise on her forearm.

“This is the bruise I sustained trying to keep that ‘vulnerable’ resident from kicking our front door in on Friday night,” she wrote.

“The real vulnerable are the decent citizens of St Kilda. We await your action.”

It comes after the Leader reported violence, abuse, open drug use and prostitution had become rife in Little Grey St, around The Regal rooming house, following the closure of the Gatwick.

“People who are living good, decent lives are having those lives compromised by people who have chosen to do the opposite,” she said on air yesterday.

“And the people we have elected to solve the problems are not solving the problems.”

Mr Foley condemned the violence.

“What happened to Ms Langbroek is completely unacceptable, and our thoughts go out to her and her family,” Mr Foley said.

“I spoke to Ms Langbroek yesterday, and I’m pleased that an arrest has been made and this matter is now before the courts.”
