INFRASTRUCTURE and services investment is a top issue for the five candidates in the Mornington electorate.

Liberal, Labor, Greens, Australian Country Alliance and Rise Up Australia Party have all stood candidates, but there are no independents.

Mornington state Liberal MP David Morris spruiked the Coalition Government’s completion of big projects such as the $15 million upgrade for Mornington Pier.

“I think the key thing people need to decide locally is whether they want to continue the progress we’ve made over the past four years or whether they want to go back to a period which, unfortunately, we had a situation where it was very limited investment locally,” Mr Morris said.

Labor candidate Rebecca Wright said there had been a general lack of investment in the area.

“People are raising with me everything from public transport to internet access,” Ms Wright said.

“When you get out there and talk to people on a day-to-day basis, it really is coming back to those things like education, health and jobs and people are really concerned about what’s happened to our public education system.”

Greens candidate Matthew McLaren said Victoria needed a strong economy supported by investment in renewable energy.

“It needs to be underpinned by investment in our education sector and it needs investment in the health sector to make sure we’re educated, healthy and we have access to jobs that Victorians want,” Mr McLaren said.

The only candidate who didn’t mention infrastructure was Rise Up Australia Party candidate Peter Moldovan, who said he would be campaigning “to keep Australia Australian”.

Australian Country Alliance candidate Marion Barnes was not available to be interviewed due to the death of a family member.
