Frankston, Cranbourne’s Hall Rd set for $169m upgrade, lands among state’s top priority road projects
Frankston and Cranbourne motorists are set for smoother travel with the suburb’s link, Hall Rd, set to undergo a whopping $169 million upgrade. And the much anticipated project has landed on the Federal Government’s list of priority projects.

Hall Rd has landed among the state’s priority transport projects.
The Federal Government committed $84.5 million to upgrading the Frankston-Cranbourne link as part of the annual budget on Tuesday night, with the State Government matching the contribution to get the much-awaited project underway.
It’s the Federal Government’s fifth highest cash splash for a Victorian transport project behind jobs including Shepparton’s Stage 3 rail upgrade ($320 million) and Warrnambool’s Stage 2 rail upgrade ($208 million).
A further $27.15 million will boost the southeast Western Port Hwy and $22.5 million was secured to improve South Rd at Moorabbin.
The State will reduce its contribution to South Rd, Narre Warren’s North Rd and Western Port Hwy.
It comes as the Government promised a whopping $1.1 billion for the state’s priority road and rail projects on top of the revitalised National Road Safety Strategy.
Road tragedies are estimated to cost the national economy around $30 billion a year, budget documents reveal.
A total of $2 billion was committed to support road upgrades and wire rope safety barriers, designed to reduce tragedies caused by motorists veering off road or swerving into the wrong lane.
The funds will also contribute to extra rumble strips.
