Coronavirus Bayside: Highett, Brighton and Cheltenham have the most active cases

The number of active cases in Bayside has finally started to fall after surging to 110. But there are still many cases in several suburbs including one not linked to an outbreak at an aged care home. SEE THE FULL LIST

Despite recording no new coronavirus cases this week Highett is still Bayside’s most infected suburb with 50 active cases, eight less than last week.

The suburb is home to Menarock Life (Rosehill) which is currently closed for deep cleaning after an outbreak that has claimed two lives and been linked to 50 infections.

Another aged care home – Regis Aged Care – helped drive up infections in Brighton, with a total of 61 cases linked to the centre.

The suburb recorded another 12 new active cases, taking its current total to 44.

Postcode 3192 which includes Cheltenham and Cheltenham East had two new cases, taking its total of active cases to 15.

At least one of the active cases was linked to Southland shopping centre.

Postcode 3192, which covers Black Rock and Beaumaris had one new active case resulting in a total of four active cases.

Sandringham also had one new case, taking the suburb’s total of active cases to four.

There was no change to the number of active cases in Brighton East which remained at six.

Postcode 3188, which includes Hampton, Hampton East and Hampton North saw its total number of active cases fall one to two.

The total number of active cases across Bayside was 101 on Friday, after peaking 110 on Tuesday, August 11.

A month earlier, on July 11 the area had just three active cases.

On Friday (August 14), Victoria had 372 active cases, and was mourning 14 new deaths – 12 of them linked to aged care homes.
