A beloved historic pub in the heart of Albert Park will finally reopen next month after shutting four years ago for a massive revamp.
The beating heart of the area for more than 100 years, the Albert Park Hotel has been transformed by the team behind the Portsea Hotel, Half Moon and Lucky Coq.
The Colonial Leisure Group, owned by independent family-run business The Morris Group, bought the 137-year-old haunt in 2014 with a view to creating a perfect blend of old and new.
The Morris family have called Albert Park their home for many years and are excited to finally re-open doors to their local.
While respecting the bones and brickwork of the historic site, Six Degrees Architects and stylist Anna Roberts have given new height and depth to the space by creating a four-storey atrium with expansive windows which flood the venue with natural light.
A huge tree takes pride of place in the atrium, and vintage pieces and antiques create a cosy, old-time feel accented with Chinoiserie pieces to echo the modern-Chinese menu created by executive chef Ken Yuen.
General manager Brad Hammond, formerly of The Hotel Windsor, said the new direction would be “fresh and inspiring for the area”.
“Albert Park Hotel has been the backdrop to so many magical memories for our local community,” he said.
“We can’t wait to see this beautiful pub brimming with life and laughter once more.”
The menu will include contemporary and classic dishes which celebrate local and sustainably sourced produce, while the wine list heroes Victorian and Australian producers with a large selection of premium wines on the reserve list.

Patrons will enter via the main public bar where they can enjoy leisurely drinks or snacks and even take in a football game.
Next door in the restaurant, Happy Valley, guests can experience Yuen’s incredible food in a more intimate setting, while the buildings alfresco seating provides the perfect place to take in the goings on of the neighbourhood.
The upstairs bar and lounge will come alive at night with world-class cocktails and delicious Chinese snacks.
Taking inspiration from the flavours of Yuen’s food, the cocktail list has been carefully crafted by Proof & Company who have designed drinks lists for some of the world’s most renowned bars, including Singapore’s prestigious Atlas.
The space will be lined with private booths with rattan shutters which can be booked by up to eight people who want to sit upstairs and still experience the restaurant menu.
The exact date of the opening has not yet been released, but expect to be chowing down on food and quenching your thirst from next month.
